Therapy for ADHD in Ottawa

Do you ever have days when it feels like your mind has too many tabs open at once?

One thought tumbles into the next. Time slips away without warning. You begin one thing, remember another, lose your place, and somehow end the day wondering why you're so tired when it feels like you barely stopped moving.

If you've spent years feeling like you're always catching up, always apologizing, always promising yourself that tomorrow you'll finally "get it together," you're not alone.

You don't have to keep carrying that story by yourself.

At Cup of Tea Psychotherapy, we offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy for teens (12+) and adults with ADHD. Whether you've recently discovered you're neurodivergent or you've known for years, therapy can become a place where the pressure to constantly fix yourself begins to soften.

We offer in-person sessions from our warm Ottawa office and virtual therapy throughout Ontario.

What is ADHD Therapy?

Therapy is one of the few places where you don't have to perform.

You don't have to explain why your mind jumps from one thought to another. You don't have to apologize for forgetting something. You don't have to shrink yourself, mask your struggles, or convince someone that you're trying your best.

You simply get to arrive exactly as you are.

Living with ADHD in a world designed for neurotypical brains can be exhausting. Over time, many people begin to carry shame that was never theirs to hold. They begin believing they are lazy, inconsistent, careless, or "too much."

Therapy isn't about teaching you to become someone else.

It's about helping you understand the language of your own mind with more curiosity than criticism. It's about discovering ways of living that work with your brain instead of constantly asking it to become something it isn't.

Therapy for ADHD is…

✔ Creating space for rest instead of constant self-correction

✔ Turning towards self-compassion instead of self-blame

✔ Learning gentle strategies that honour your nervous system

✔ Understanding the patterns behind executive dysfunction, overwhelm, and burnout

✔ Reconnecting with the version of yourself beyond productivity and performance

Growth doesn't happen because we're pushed harder. It happens when, for perhaps the first time, we feel safe enough to soften.

Like a cup of tea, healing can't be rushed. You don't force the leaves to steep before they're ready. You simply create the conditions—a little warmth, a little patience, a little time—and trust that something nourishing will unfold. Therapy offers that kind of space: a place where every part of you is welcomed with care, and where you can gently grow into a deeper understanding of yourself.

Areas of Focus in ADHD Therapy

Living with ADHD often affects far more than focus.

Many people carry invisible exhaustion from years of adapting to a world that wasn't built with their nervous system in mind. Therapy offers a place to gently unpack those experiences while building a life that feels more sustainable.

Together, we can explore:

There is no expectation that you arrive with everything figured out.

We simply begin wherever you are.

Our Approach to ADHD Therapy

We believe therapy should meet you where you are—not ask you to become someone you're not.

Your mind has its own rhythm. Your experiences have shaped the way you move through the world. Your struggles, strengths, sensitivities, and stories all belong in the room.

Our work is collaborative, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-affirming. Rather than asking you to fit into systems that were never designed with you in mind, we take time to understand what truly supports you. Together, we explore what helps you feel more grounded, more understood, and more connected to yourself.

If spirituality, culture, or faith are meaningful parts of your life, we welcome them into the therapy room, too. We believe healing is most meaningful when your whole self is invited into the conversation, which includes mind, body, heart, and soul.
